How to Start a Conversation

A natural opener can be an observation, a simple question, or a brief introduction. The important skill is reading the response and respecting disinterest.

Three natural openings

Context: comment on something genuinely happening around you. Question: ask a simple question that makes sense in the setting. Introduction: when appropriate, say hello and introduce yourself without a complicated line.

The response matters more than the opener

A good conversation becomes two-sided. If the response is minimal or closed, do not keep escalating attempts to win attention.
