Women are not a separate conversational species. Pay attention to the person, the setting and whether the exchange is reciprocal.

Notice something relevant, ask or share something genuine, listen to the answer, then build from what was actually said. Avoid turning the interaction into an interview or a memorized routine.
Watch reciprocity
If the other person gives short answers, turns away, does not ask anything back, or otherwise disengages, make it easy to end the conversation.
